How it works
Watch something you'd have watched anyway
Four steps, and the only new habit is the last one.
Step 1
Watch
Open a YouTube video in Spanish, Japanese, French or German. The subtitles and their translation appear together under the player, with the replay and slow-down controls a learner needs.
Step 2
Understand
Click a word — or drag across a phrase — and the video pauses on its dictionary entry: dictionary form, reading, part of speech, meanings.
Step 3
Choose
Not sure what's worth learning? Ask the video. The word list ranks everything new in it by how common the word is, and tells you how much of the video that covers.
Step 4
Remember
Saved words come back as flashcards that replay the original clip, scheduled by FSRS to reach you just before you'd forget. Each grade shows the interval it will actually give you.
Features
Built for the boring part
Looking a word up is easy. Meeting it again three days later is the part that needs software.
Dual Subtitles
The original subtitles and an English translation, together, under the player. The target line is set in a reading serif and every word in it is clickable; the translation sits under it in the same face's italic, the way a dictionary sets a gloss.
Instant Dictionary
Click any word and the video pauses on a dictionary card: the dictionary form, the reading where a language has one, the part of speech in plain English, and the meanings — without leaving the video.
The Word List
Ask a video what it wants you to know. LingoKeep reads the whole transcript, folds every form onto its dictionary word, drops the ones you already have cards for, and shows you what's left in frequency order — with how much of the new vocabulary you'd cover by learning it.
Free Spaced-Repetition Review
Review runs on FSRS, the same modern scheduler serious Anki users switch to, and it is free forever. A card opens by replaying its clip — you hear the sentence before you see it — then grades on Again / Hard / Good / Easy.
Your Deck, on the Web
Every card you've saved, as a grid you can actually navigate — with a strip across the top that shows what state your deck is in: how much is new, learning, young and mature, the last 90 days of reviews, and what's coming for the next seven.
Works Before You Sign Up
The extension needs no account to be useful. Subtitles, the dictionary, the word list and saving cards all work signed out, stored on your own machine — and so do browsing your deck and doing a review session.
Languages
Four languages, done properly
Each one ships a real dictionary with the inflected forms mapped back to their dictionary word — so a conjugated verb in a subtitle finds its entry. Japanese is segmented and carries readings, because a sentence with no spaces can't be clicked without it.
